Sports Roundup: La Cañada boys’ volleyball captures rare crown

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
La Cañada 3, San Marino 0: For the first time since 2006, the Spartans clinched a share of the Rio Hondo League title with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 victory in the regular season finale at home.

Senior Connor Walbrecht led the Spartans with 14 kills, 17 digs, 15 assists and three blocks, while Blake Cornell added 10 kills and three blocks.

La Cañada improved to 17-2 overall and 7-1 in league in winning its second-ever league title.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep 3, Rio Hondo Prep 0: The host Rebels wrapped up their fourth straight Prep League championship Tuesday with a 22-15, 25-22, 25-18 win.

The Rebels (21-4, 8-0 in league) received 21 kills from Dante Fregoso and 36 assists from Aldridge Khin.

BOYS’ TENNIS

St. Francis in Mission League prelims: St. Francis’ Ian Freer and Jack Freer won both of their doubles sets Monday at L.A. Valley College. The Freers opened with a 6-1, 6-0 win against a Crespi duo before posting a 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 victory against a Chamiande tandem.

The Freers will play in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the same venue.
