Sports Roundup: La Cañada girls’ soccer picks up second straight win

GIRLS’ SOCCER

La Cañada 1, Temple City 0: Mia LeClerc’s second-half score stood as the game-winner on Friday on the road in Rio Hondo League play.

The score was assisted by Katherine Sheehy, while Celine Cano-Ruiz had five saves for the shutout.

The Spartans improved to 9-6-3, 3-3 in league.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 2, Notre Dame 2: The Tologs notched a point with Friday evening’s Mission League tie on the road.

FSHA improved to 9-4-3, 1-3-1 in league.

Nia Harris netted one goal for the Tologs, while the other score came via an own goal.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

La Cañada 44, Temple City 25: Zoe Williams had 21 points and 14 rebounds as the Spartans turned a 6-6 tie after the first quarter into a rout, winning the second quarter, 20-7.

La Cañada (19-2, 6-0 in Rio Hondo League) won their sixth game in a row.

Kristina Kurdoghlian had 10 rebounds and Georgia Cervenka had nine.

Flintridge Prep 64, Maranatha 32: It was the sixth straight win for the Rebels, who won a nonleague road contest Friday afternoon.

With the victory, the Rebels improved to 13-4.

BOYS’ SOCCER

La Cañada 5, Temple City 1: The Spartans broke lose from a 1-1 halftime tie with four second-half goals to win Friday at home in Rio Hondo League action.

La Cañada is now 8-4-5, 5-0-1 in league and tied for first with Monrovia.

Loyola 1, St. Francis 0: The Golden Knights lost on a second-half goal in Mission League play on Friday at home.

St. Francis slipped to 4-8-4, 2-3-3 in league.

Pasadena Poly 2, Flintridge Prep 1: The Rebels dipped below .500 in the Prep League with a defeat at St. Francis High on Friday evening.

With the setback, Flintridge Prep is now 8-3-2 overall and 1-2 in league.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

La Cañada 80, Temple City 56: The Spartans continued to roll through the Rio Hondo League with Friday’s decisive home win.

The Spartans (20-3, 6-0 in league) sprinted out to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter to set the tone.

Loyola 54, St. Francis 53: The Golden Knights lost a heartbreaker at home on Friday night Mission League action.

Trailing by four at halftime, 26-22, St. Francis (6-15, 2-6 in league) sent the game to overtime, where it was outscored, 4-3.
