Sports Roundup: La Cañada, St. Francis basketball collect wins at San Fernando Valley Showcase

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

La Cañada 44, Oaks Christian 38: The Spartans picked up a victory in the San Fernando Valley Showcase at Alemany High on Saturday evening.

Sean Estes led La Cañada (12-4) with a team-high 21 points.

St Francis 66, Canyon Country Canyon 58: The Golden Knights upped their record to 10-5 with Saturday evening’s San Fernando Valley Showcase at Alemany High.

Previous to that, the Golden Knights fell to Harvard-Westlake, 75-68, in Mission League play on Friday to fall to 0-2 in league.

Flintridge Prep 72, Firebaugh 31: Jake Althouse had 22 points and 11 rebounds on Friday night in the Rebels’ Prep League win.

Kendall Kikkawa had 14 points and 12 assists and Jonny Samuels added 15 points for Prep (5-6, 2-0 in league).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 58, Firebaugh 4: The Rebels put together a rout and then some in Friday’s Prep League game, shutting out the Falcons in the first quarter and pummeling their foes by 54 points.

Eleven players scored for Flintridge Prep (13-2), led by Andie Kim (13 points) and Kaitlyn Chen (11 points).

Harvard-Westlake 59, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 24: The Tologs (6-11) tipped off Mission League play on the road Thursday with a loss.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 5, Marlborough 3: The Tologs opened up Mission League play Friday at Occidental College with a victory.

It was the fourth straight victory for FSHA (5-1-1, 1-0 in league).

BOYS’ SOCCER

La Cañada 1, Hart 1: The Spartans scored a second-half goal to rally for a nonleague tie Friday on the road.

With the tie, La Cañada sits at 3-4-3.

St. Francis 0, Harvard-Westlake 0: St. Francis picked up a tie Friday in a Mission League road match. The Golden Knights are 6-2-3, 1-0-1 in league.

Firebaugh 3, Flintridge Prep 1: Garrett Gaines scored the lone goal Friday for the visiting Rebels in their Prep League opener at Lynwood High.

The Rebels dipped to 6-1-1.

Tim Treinen and Ben Ventresca had two goals each Wednesday to lead the visiting Rebels to a 6-2 nonleague win against Alhambra.

Andrew Lathrop finished with a goal and three assists for Flintridge Prep, which also got a goal from Simon Siskel.

WRESTLING

La Cañada 61, South Pasadena 18: The Spartans opened up Rio Hondo League action with a home victory Thursday afternoon.

La Cañada (8-2), which finished third in league last season, received pins from Brandon Abboud (126 pounds), Cameron Carey (132) and Andrew Aghadjanians (145).

GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Flintridge Sacred Heart in Savanna Tournament: It was a solid run for the Tologs in the two-day event in Anaheim.

Flintridge Sacred Heart went 3-2, capping its run with a 5-3 loss to Los Alamitos in Saturday afternoon’s fifth-place match.

The Tologs opened with a 6-2 win on Friday over El Rancho before rallying from a five-goal, fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime and defeat host Savanna, 9-8, later in the evening.

Flintridge Sacred Heart opened championship semifinal play with a 10-2 loss to Laguna Hills, 10-2, before rebounding for a 9-2 win versus West Torrance.

Junior Zoe Drobenko led the Tologs with 15 goals through the first four matches.

Chadwick 12, Flintridge Prep 2: The Rebels fell to 0-3 in the Prep League with a home defeat Friday afternoon.
