Sports Roundup: No. 1 La Cañada water polo holds own in OC

BOYS’ WATER POLO

La Cañada at South Coast Water Polo Tournament: The Spartans tallied a respectable 2-3 record through the three-day long, highly competitive South Coast Tournament in Orange County.

CIF Southern Section Division V top-ranked La Cañada (5-2) opened with two losses on Thursday; an 11-1 loss to Division I No. 2 Mater Dei and then 19-8 to Division II No. 8 Villa Park.

On Friday, the Spartans recovered with an 11-7 win over Capistrano Valley before a 12-10 win over Servite on Saturday morning. La Cañada ended its run with a 17-15 loss to Northwood on Saturday night.

Flintridge Prep 20, Pasadena Poly 7: Kasen Barraclaugh finished with five goals and four assists and goalkeeper Conrad Oakes had 10 saves Friday to spur the host Rebels in a Prep League match. Flintridge Prep (5-2, 2-0 in league) received three goals each from Scott Fordham and Evan Havunjian.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 3, Alemany 0: Flintidge Sacred Heart picked up a 25-16, 25-21, 25-17 Mission League home win Thursday.

The Tologs (11-3, 1-1 in league) got 14 kills, 17 assists and 10 digs from Ellis Dejardin, 13 kills, 11 assists and 15 digs from Kayla Lund and 12 digs from Maddie Pernecky.

Mayfield 3, Flintridge Prep 1: Host Flintridge Prep saw Mayfield post a 25-12, 27-25, 24-26, 25-18 Prep League win Thursday.

The Rebels (3-2, 2-2 in league) got 38 assists from Jade Whaley, 12 kills from Courtney Johnson and 11 kills from Jada Gritton.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Flintridge Prep 11 Westridge 7: The visiting Rebels rolled to their first win of the season Thursday in a Prep League match at Muir High. Flintridge Prep improved to 1-3, 1-1 in league.

Temple City 13, La Cañada 5: The Spartans fell in their Rio Hondo League opener at home on Thursday afternoon.

With the defeat, La Cañada dropped to 2-3 overall.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Louisville 273, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 276: The Tologs saw Shanley Galanto finish first in a Mission League match Thursday at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena. Galanto finished with a six-over-par 42.
