Vose makes it to Olympic Trials semifinals

USC freshman Kirsten Vose proved that she was among the top-20 100-meter freestyle swimmers in America at Thursday’s preliminaries and semifinals of the U.S. Olympic Trials at Omaha, Neb.

Vose, a Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 2015 alumnus, finished No. 16 in the country with a mark of 55.18 seconds in Thursday afternoon’s semifinals.

Former Saugus High star Abbey Weitzeil finished first in the semifinal with a mark of 53.57 as the top eight places earned a spot into Friday afternoon’s championship.

Vose began Thursday by placing 16th in the prelims with a time of 55.32. Vose just clipped Arizona’s Katrina Konopka (17th, 55.34) for the final qualifying spot to the semifinals.

The competition was the third of the week for Vose, who participated in one event on Monday and Tuesday.

The USC freshman tied for 26th in the 100 breaststroke with Meaghan Ra with a personal-best time of 1:09.39 on Monday.

On Tuesday, Vose tied for 20th with Megan Moroney in the 200 freestyle in a mark of 2:00.48.
