Car plunges off Angeles Crest Highway

A car plunged off the side of Angeles Crest Highway above Altadena on Saturday morning, falling about 100 feet but leaving the driver largely unscathed, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers arrived on scene to find the man sitting outside the vehicle waiting, said Officer Tatiana Sauquillo. The highway was closed for about an hour.

Authorities airlifted the man to a Pasadena hospital, said Nathan Judy, spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service. Although he was complaining of pain, the motorist suffered no severe injuries, he said. It’s unclear what caused him to veer off the side of the cliff.
