Six local nonprofits are getting extra contributions to their causes thanks to the annual Women in Business event sponsored by local lawmakers.

State Sen. Carol Liu (D-La Cañada Flintridge) chose to direct donations to the YWCA Glendale Women and Girl’s Financial Literacy Program as well as Women At Work Pasadena.

“Managing personal finances and securing meaningful work are fundamental to leading an independent and fulfilling life,” Liu said in a statement.

Assemblymember Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada Flintridge) chose the Flintridge Center, which combats poverty and violence in Altadena and northwest Pasadena through a variety of programs, and the YWCA Pasadena – Foothill Valley.

Assemblymember Mike Gatto (D-Silver Lake) selected the Glendale Youth Alliance and the Armenian Nurses Association to receive grants.

Each group will receive grants of $2,930 from money raised at the annual Women in Business luncheon held earlier this year.
