Officials confirmed the name of a 17-year-old La Cañada High School student Monday, adding investigators concluded he took his own life.

Campbell Forrest Taylor jumped the third-floor walkway of the 700 building on the campus, which houses the middle school grades, around 3:55 p.m. Friday. Los Angeles County coroner’s Lt. Fred Corral said Taylor was on a cell phone before his fatal leap.

The person on the other end of the line, who Corral declined to identify, then called Los Angeles Sheriff’s officials, who responded to the scene.

[FOR THE RECORD 8:43 p.m.: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Taylor jumped from the roof.]
