La Cañada Flintridge homes hit by burglars, more than $50,000 in goods taken

Thieves on Friday targeted three homes in La Cañada Flintridge, stealing $50,000 worth in antique silverware, plus jewelry, laptops and weapons, officials said.

The incidents occurred between 9 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. in the 4700 block of La Cañada Boulevard, 4300 block of Oakwood Avenue and 4500 block of Loma Vista Drive, according to Lt. Brian Fitch of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Detectives searched the neighborhoods, areas of Pasadena and local freeways for the thieves, but they were unable to find them.

In at least two burglaries, witnesses reported a woman in a silver Porsche Cayenne was seen driving away from the area, he added. Thinking that it may have been involved in the thefts, deputies searched for that vehicle but were unable to find it.

The house on La Cañada Boulevard was hardest hit, with the burglars taking the antique silverware, two iPad computers, a 12-gauge shotgun, a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol and miscellaneous jewelry items.

At the Oakwood Avenue house, a resident told deputies that he heard his front door bell ring and saw a woman standing there. He then noticed two men in red hooded sweat shirts walking into his backyard. But when he called out to the men, they immediately ran out of his yard. No losses were reported from that property.

Thirty minutes later, a babysitter spotted the Porsche pulling out of a driveway at Loma Vista Drive, according to Fitch.

When the baby sitter entered the Loma Vista Drive home, she saw that a pair of rear glass doors had been smashed. A MacBook Pro personal computer and a MacBook Air personal computer were reported stolen from that residence.

The incidents marked a small uptick in residential burglaries over a relatively quiet month. In February, the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station saw 16 residential burglaries; last month the station reported six.

Capt. David Silversparre said the reduction in crime is a result of deputies issuing search warrants, investigating tips and partnering with other local law enforcement agencies. Two weeks ago, deputies from the Crescenta Valley station arrested two suspects in Pasadena with stolen property from La Cañada Flintridge burglaries.

The station continues to search for additional burglary suspects.

“We made great strides over this last month that I believe resulted in the reduction of burglaries,” said Silversparre.
