Rehearsals were underway for the 1992 Foothill Youth Summer Theatre’s production of “Peter Pan,” which featured aspiring thespians from area schools. The play was staged at the La Cañada High School auditorium.

Thirty Years Ago

La Cañadans seeking an opportunity to swim in the summer of 1982 were taking advantage of community swim hours at the La Cañada High School pool. The La Cañada Youth House sponsored afternoon swim periods on weekdays, with the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce sponsoring swim hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

Forty Years Ago

The La Cañada Youth House reported that more than 700 people were taking part in the 52 classes offered there during the summer of 1972. The ceramics program was “more popular than ever,” officials reported, attributing the increase in interest to two new kilns that had been installed that year.

Fifty Years Ago

The La Cañada school board decided on a majority vote to send a letter to representatives in Congress and the U.S. Senate protesting a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that banned the daily recitation of a non-sectarian prayer in New York state schools. Only one local trustee agreed with the court’s decision.

Sixty Years Ago

A new lighting maintenance district was approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors that would allow for the installation of street lights in the new La Cañada Oaks development. The streets involved were Paulette Place, Knight Way, Oliveta Place, Paradise Canyon Lane and Redwillow Lane.
