Driver in Angeles Crest Highway accident found alive

A man survived a car accident Friday night that dropped his black Porsche about 200 feet down the side of the Angeles Crest Highway, officials said.

Authorities received a call around 5:20 p.m. on September 7 from a witness who reported seeing the car on the side of the highway near mile marker 27 in La Cañada Flintridge, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.

When officials arrived on scene, they found the car empty and began searching for the driver, she said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, CHP and U.S. Forest Service responded to the incident.

They removed the vehicle at 10:15 p.m., said Posada. About a half an hour later, they received an anonymous call from a person who told authorities that the driver was alive and safe.

On Saturday, they made contact with the driver, whose name and age were not made available. He gave a statement to the CHP and investigators will decide whether to press charges for a possible hit-and-run this week, said Posada.

The man lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason and drove his vehicle off the highway about 200 feet. He sustained minor injuries and walked off the scene. It was not immediately known if other vehicles were involved in the collision.
