West Nile confirmed in La Cañada

One case of West Nile virus has been confirmed in La Cañada Flintridge, Los Angeles County health officials announced Friday.

The city joins Burbank, Glendale and other cities in the region that have seen the virus in recent months.

“This is a clear indication that although, in a traditional sense mosquito season should be winding down, West Nile virus activity is not yet tapering off,” Cynthia Miller, a spokeswoman for the county, said in a statement.

The early fall season weather often leads to mosquito breeding, she stated. “For this reason, residents should continue to take necessary precautions in eliminating mosquito breeding sources around their homes, and protecting against mosquito bites.”

This is the first confirmed case of West Nile in La Cañada Flintridge this year.
