Rose pruning — Saturday, Jan. 8, 11 a.m. Rose horticulturist Amanda Everett teaches why rose pruning is necessary, what tools to use, the best time to prune and pruning techniques for different types of roses. The class meets in the Rose Garden Pavilion at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada. Free with Descanso admission, $8 adults, $6 senior/students and $3 for children 5-12.

Painting Nature — Six-week series, beginning Saturday, Jan. 8, 10 a.m. to noon. Learn the finer points of watercolor painting of the natural world from artist Jay R. Ewing. Watercolor demonstration — Friday, Jan. 7, 7 p.m. Verdugo Hills Art Association hosts guest artist Osamu Saito for a demonstration event at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive, La Cañada. Singing, Acting, Etiquette/Modeling training — 10-week sessions on Saturdays, beginning Jan. 8. The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive, La Cañada, is the venue for these courses taught by WAW Talent Training. Singing classes for ages 7 to adult are set for 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Acting classes, also for ages 7 to adult will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.; and Etiquette/Modeling training for ages 7-21 will take place from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Each full session is $395; the first class is free. Kids will explore stories of the mythical gods, goddesses and heroes depicted in the bronze sculptures in the art galleries, then cook up a feast inspired by Roman mythology. Pasadena Master Chorale hosts Cornell Glee Club — Sunday, Jan. 16, 4 p.m. La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Ave., La Crescenta 91214. The concert will open with a performance by the Pasadena Master Chorale of the “Introit” and “Kyrie” from Mozart’s Requiem, K. 626. The Cornell Glee Club will then present all-male choral music from a variety of cultures, ranging from compositions from the European Renaissance to folk music of the Americas. CPR course — Thursdays, Jan. 13 and Feb. 10, 6 p.m. both dates. The Crescenta-Cañada YMCA Heartsaver AED (automated external defibrillator) course covers adult, child and infant CPR; adult and child AED; adult, child and infant choking; as well as stroke detection and intervention. The class lasts approximately three hours and the certification is for two years. Fees are: CC-YMCA member, $40; program member, $50; non-member, $60.
