Volunteers were stationed at eight project areas on May 19 during La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s Serve Day.

More than 230 volunteers spent their Saturday tending community gardens, hosting play dates between foster children and helping residents in need from La Cañada Flintridge to downtown Los Angeles.

The church partnered with local organizations to host the eight different community projects. Volunteers also donated food to benefit the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.

“It was a joy to see so many different people united to make a real difference in our community,” Megan Katerjian, the church’s director of outreach, said in a statement.

The next Serve Day is May 6, 2014.
