Crescenta Valley Crime: Someone cut down a Pine tree at LCF Country Club

Vandalism: 5500 block of Godbey Drive. Someone from the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club contacted police to report that sometime between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. that day, someone had cut down a pine tree between the third and fourth fairways on the golf course. The tree had been cut 2 feet from its bottom, the stump had a clean cut and saw dust surrounded the site. No witnesses could be found.
Burglary, residential: 800 block of Waldorf Road. A man reported that, sometime between 7:45 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., someone had entered his home and stolen several items. The suspect seemed to have entered through a rear sliding glass door that was left open. The deputy observed small pry marks on the door frame. Also, the attached garage was ransacked. The door between the garage and the home had been kicked in from the garage side. Deputies speculated that, at some point, the suspect had accidentally locked himself or herself inside the garage and had kicked open the door to regain entry into the home. A television was taken from the living room, and money was taken from the kitchen table. A ring was taken from a plastic container in a bathroom. A lock from an outside gate had been cut, and officers could not determine the point of exit since several means were available. No witnesses were identified, but a note was left by deputies for a neighbor who seemed to have a surveillance camera pointed in the direction of the road in front of the victim’s home.
June 14
Burglary, shoplifting: 2 Sport Chalet Drive. At around 4:30 p.m., a loss prevention officer at Sport Chalet reported that a dark-haired man in a blue plaid shirt and blue jeans, approximately 5 feet 7 and weighing around 170 pounds, shoplifted merchandise. The man was seen on video surveillance acting suspicious and placing a hatchet under his shirt before exiting. Officers searched the area for the man but found nothing, and booked a CD of the footage into evidence.
June 15
Burglary, shoplifting: 2 Sport Chalet Drive. At around 3:40 p.m., deputies got a call from a store manager regarding a burglary suspect who’d shoplifted a hatchet the day before being spotted in the store. The suspect was seen running out of the store. With the help of assisting deputies, the suspect, a 20-year-old man, was detained while witnesses were questioned. One employee said she recognized the man from the incident the day before. The man, who was wearing the same clothes a second day, was arrested for burglary and searched by officers. He was concealing another hatchet in his waistband. When interviewed, the suspect said he’d sold the first hatchet to a friend and wanted another. Another witness reported seeing the man arrive in a gray sedan along with two other unidentified males who were wearing baseball caps and shorts. Just then, two men matching that description walked toward the deputies, and the suspect began screaming at them. He identified the two men as his friends, and they were detained as well. They said they waited nearby while the main suspect was in the store, but the store manager checked video footage and saw them enter as well. He could not see if they’d also stolen items. When the gray sedan was checked, deputies found a sword, a replica of an AK-47 pellet gun, an iPad and a pouch containing several possible stolen items that may have been linked to other recent burglaries in the area. The driver of the vehicle was also arrested for burglary, and the hatchet was returned to the story. Both men were booked at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.
June 16
Burglary, vehicle: 5300 block of Crown Avenue. A woman reported that, sometime between 6 a.m. Saturday and noon Monday, someone had broken into and stolen items from her locked Volkswagen Beetle. She said there had been a large party on Saturday at a nearby home, to which another deputy had been called by a noise complaint. When the victim returned to her car Monday, the driver’s side door was unlocked, though she remembered locking it. Among items taken from the vehicle were a bag containing various CDs and bottles of pills prescribed by her doctor. Various clothing boxes had been moved from the front floorboard onto the seat above. No other property was reported missing. A deputy noticed a small makeup applicator about 15 feet south of the car that could be checked for fingerprints. No witnesses could be found, but the house of an absent neighbor had an infrared-capable surveillance camera pointed at the woman’s vehicle.

Vandalism: 2800 block of Los Olivos Lane. A man was awakened at 1:45 a.m. by the sound of objects striking the front of his residence. As he walked to the front door, he heard a vehicle drive away. When he opened the door, he discovered his house had been struck by 11 raw eggs. No video surveillance caught the suspects in the act, and neighbors were not awoken by officers, due to the early hour.
