Susan Boyd, a former member and past president of the La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board, has been selected by the district’s administrative team to receive the 2013-14 Golden Apple Award.

Sponsored by the Assn. of California School Administrators, the award honors outstanding community leaders throughout the state.

“The La Cañada Unified School District is deeply indebted to Susan Boyd for her generous volunteerism and tireless dedication to its schools, community, teachers and staff — and, most importantly, its children,” Supt. Wendy Sinnette stated in a press release.

In addition to Boyd’s eight years of service on the La Cañada school board from 2005 to 2013, she is also known for her ardent volunteerism. She was a room mother at La Cañada Elementary School for 11 years, before serving as PTA president at La Cañada High School 7/8 for two years. She chaired the 2004 bond measure campaign in support of the school district before joining the board in 2005.

In the larger community, Boyd served as a founding board member for A Noise Within Theatre, and is currently a founding member of the Glendale Youth Orchestra and the Five Acres Children’s Guild.

Most recently, she has lent her expertise as a phone bank volunteer for the Measure LC parcel tax campaign, in support of the local school district.

“Always an advocate for students, her community, and organizations who represent the interests of both, Susan has significantly benefited the community of La Cañada Flintridge and the La Cañada Unified School District,” Sinnette said.

Representatives from the 10 school districts that make up Region XV of the Assn. of California School Administrators will convene at a Feb. 20 ceremony to present the Golden Apple awards to Boyd and her fellow recipients.
