La Cañada Crime: Residential burglary reported on Georgian Road

Burglary, residential: 300 block of Georgian Road. A man reported that sometime between 11:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day, someone had entered his home and stolen various items. When the victim came home, he heard running water coming from inside his house. When he went into the room, he noticed his dresser drawers had been opened and an iMac computer was missing. He saw that a bathroom window near the bedroom had been opened; outside the window he saw water flowing from a broken pipe and called the sheriff’s department. Several other laptops and another desktop computer were taken from the home. The man said the bathroom window was broken previously and its locking mechanism didn’t work. Fingerprints were requested, and a deputy questioned neighbors. One reported hearing dogs barking around 1:30 p.m. but saw nothing. Another neighbor with a security camera could not get it to work, but said he would provide a copy of its contents once a technician fixed it.

Vandalism: 1600 block of Sugarloaf Drive. A man called deputies to report that sometime between 11:30 and 11:55 p.m. the night before, someone had forced their way through his front gate to toilet paper his yard and front door, and that he caught the suspects on a surveillance video. The video showed a juvenile male and several other people, whose faces were concealed by toilet paper, vandalizing the yard. The officer noticed no damage to the gate and reported it was working properly at the time. The man called the station later in the day to inform officers the gate had stopped working.
June 26
Burglary, vehicle: 4600 block of Daleridge Road. A man awoke at around 5 a.m. that day to the sound of leaves rustling in his driveway. When he looked out his bedroom window, he saw a man standing in his driveway by the driver’s side door of his 2000 Dodge Intrepid. The victim opened his front door and yelled at the man, who took off running south on Daleridge. The suspect was described as 5 feet 10 and wearing a black cap, pants and hooded sweat shirt. The victim noticed his locked car had been open, but couldn’t say if anything was missing from it. No signs of forced entry could be found. Later, a neighbor called to say her security camera had possibly captured the incident, but that officers should check with her husband, due home at a later time.
Vandalism: 4800 block of Carmel Road. A woman said that sometime between 7:30 p.m. the night before and 7:30 a.m., someone had torn the soft top of her 2005 For Mustang convertible as it was parked in her driveway. Several large tears appeared to have been made with an unknown sharp object, with one tear measuring about 40 inches. Although they were long enough to access the car’s interior, the victim told deputies nothing appeared to have been taken.
June 27
Grand theft: 2000 block of Foothill Boulevard. A woman called the sheriff’s department to report that an air conditioning unit condenser had been stolen from the rooftop of her restaurant sometime between 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. the following day. She noticed the theft when, after becoming very warm, she asked an employee to check on the unit. The employee noticed the condenser had been removed from the unit, and several pipes had been cut. The deputy surmised the suspect had used a ladder to access the roof. A nearby surveillance camera may have caught the suspect, but its owner could not be located at the time of the report.
June 29
Drunk in public: 2600 block of Foothill Boulevard. At 7:24 p.m. an officer responded to a call about a man in his 40s who was walking along Foothill, apparently drunk and holding a 24-ounce can of Miller Lite. When asked what he was doing, the man replied with slurred speech, “Drinking.” He then continued to ramble incomprehensibly. The man was unable to stand without assistance, and was staggering back and forth. Determining he was unable to care for himself, the man was arrested for being drunk in public.
