La Cañada Crime: SUV window smashed, items stolen at Mayors’ Discovery Park

June 30 - July 2

Identity theft: 500 block of Venado Vista Drive. A man reported fraudulent credit card accounts being opened in his name.

July 6

Petty theft: 1300 block of Foothill Boulevard, between 9 a.m. and noon. A doctor reported his Apple iPhone 5 was stolen from on top of a desk in his office.

July 6

Vehicle burglary: 1830 Foothill Blvd., between 3:30 and 5 p.m. A leather purse, makeup kit, bathing suit, sunglasses case and a vehicle security remote were taken from a sport utility vehicle while it was parked at Mayors’ Discovery Park. The front passenger-side window had been smashed out.

July 7

Vehicle burglary: 1919 Verdugo Blvd., between 7 and 9:30 p.m. The rear third seat was stolen from a 2010 Cadillac Escalade while it was parked in the United Artists theater lot. The victim said the car was locked, but there were no signs of forced entry. The bench-style seat was valued at $700.

July 8

Petty theft: 2 Sport Chalet Drive, between 6:30 and 8 p.m. A men’s mountain bike was stolen from the sidewalk in front of Sport Chalet. The victim had secured a lock on the rear sprocket but did not secure the bike to a fixed object.

June 29 - July 2

Identity theft and forgery: 2900 block of Gertrude Avenue. A woman reported on June 29 that the IRS notified her that her identity was used to file a false 2011 tax return. The woman called deputies again on July 2 to report that her bank stopped payment on a forged check in her name.

July 2 - July 3

Burglary and criminal threats: 2700 block of Orange Avenue, between 5:30 p.m. on July 2 and 9:30 a.m. on July 3. A 55-year-old Rowland Heights man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and making criminal threats after deputies found him inside a vacant home, allegedly armed with a utility knife and waiting for the owners to return. The owners had hired the man to paint the home’s interior but were unsatisfied with the work. After they withheld payment, the suspect allegedly threatened the owners over the phone and later broke into the home. He was discovered there by one of the owners, who fled and called emergency dispatchers.

Montrose

July 4

Petty theft: 2409 Florencita Ave., 1:30 a.m. A 22-year-old Montrose man was arrested for allegedly trying to take a wrought-iron table, valued at $200, from the patio at Montrose Church.
