La Cañada Crime: Woman allegedly pays for pineapple juice with counterfeit $100 bill

June 19

Identity theft: 400 block of Meadow View Lane, noon. A man reported that an unknown person used his social security number to file a fraudulent tax return.

June 21 -22

Petty theft: 1400 block of Descanso Drive, between 5 p.m. June 21 and 9 a.m. June 22. Headphones, toys and a gaming system were stolen from an unlocked car.

June 25

Cocaine possession: Angeles Crest Highway and Foothill Freeway, 2:24 a.m. A West Covina man, 21, arrested during a traffic stop after a search of his car.

June 25

Theft: 5400 block of Godbey Drive, 3:30 p.m. A man who lost a bank card reported it was used for fraudulent charges.

June 28

Burglary: 1446 Foothill Blvd., between midnight and 6:10 a.m. A manager at Lupe’s Place reported the business was broken into and ransacked, but it appeared nothing was missing

Mail fraud and forgery: 4500 Castle Road. A resident reported that outgoing mail apparently stolen between March 23 and June 5 contained checks later used for fraudulent purchases.

June 28

Drug possession: 1919 Verdugo Blvd., 5:25 p.m. Two men from Los Angeles, 25 and 29, were arrested for possession of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in the United Artists Theatre parking lot.

June 30 - July 2

Identity theft: 4500 block of Daleridge Road, between noon on June 30 and 5 p.m. on July 2. A man returning home from vacation reported receiving a cellphone bill for an account created by someone fraudulently using his name, driver’s license number and social security number.

July 2

Currency forgery: 475 Foothill Blvd., 3 p.m. A Trader Joe’s manager reported that a woman had used a counterfeit $100 bill to buy pineapple juice. Investigators determined that a woman matching her description— a 5 feet three inches, 120-pound Latina wearing brown scrubs — passed a counterfeit $100 bill at a Pasadena store the same day.

June 21 - 25

Vehicle burglary: Ramsdell and Mayfield avenues, between 7 a.m. June 21 and 2:30 p.m. June 25. A man reported a catalytic converter stolen from his parked semi truck.

June 22

Identity theft: 2700 block of Prospect Avenue noon. A woman reported that an unknown person used her social security number to file a fraudulent tax return.

June 25

Burglary and grand theft: 2651 Foothill Blvd. A manager at Leslie’s Pool Supply reported an employee pocketing $1,960 in cash by processing fictitious returns over the past several weeks. Deputies arrested the clerk, a 19-year-old man from Alhambra, who was working at the time.

June 25

Identity theft: 2900 block of Mayfield Avenue, 1 p.m. A resident reported that his credit card was used to make fraudulent charges.

June 26

Drug possession: Foothill Boulevard and La Crescenta Avenue, 12:42 a.m. A 19-year-old La Crescenta man was arrested for possession of marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms during a traffic stop.

Montrose

June 26

Possession of wooden knuckles: 2300 block of Mira Vista Ave., 3:30 a.m. A 20-year-old Montrose man was cited and released after a deputy found wooden knuckles in his car during a traffic stop.

June 28 - 29

Petty theft: 2700 block of Prospect Avenue, between 10 p.m. on June 28 and 10:50 a.m. on June 29. A woman reported the right front turn signal assembly was stolen from her parked car.
