On the Scouting Trail: Troop 507 members place flags at soldiers’ graves

Share

Members of Boy Scout Troop 507, sponsored by St. Bede Church in La Cañada, gathered at the Los Angeles National Cemetery over the Memorial Day weekend to place flags at the 88,000 graves there and to pay their respects to those who died in military service.

At each grave site, a flag was placed one foot from the gravestone and 2 inches in the ground. Then, the Boy Scout planting the flag would read the soldier’s name, salute and give them a moment of silence. The tribute has become an annual event for the local troop, which joins other Scouting groups and community members in the effort.

Troop 507 members participating in the event were Max Alvarez, Zach Alvarez, Eric Bender, Sammy Bougdanos, Trent Carey, Patrick Covert, Matthew Embick, Gabriel Gottheim, Hayden Henderson, Josh Henderson, Lucas Humayun, Trent Huston, David Ibarra, Andrew Johnson, Andrew Kruse, Matthew Kruse, Gabe Metcalf, Hayden Owen, Conner Pao, Dillon Pao, Adi Powaku, Jack Robinson, Trevor Shackleton, Charlie Smith, Alec Tujian, Ari Tujian, Mark Vistan, Jannsen Van De Yacht, Joseph Van De Yacht, Dylan Ware and Trevor Ware. Other participants from the local troop were Co-Scoutmasters Michael Devine and John Moe; Assistant Scoutmasters Evan Chersi, John Kruse, Matthew Romo and Jim Robinson; and Eagle Scout Collin Chersi.
