An Indiana Avenue resident was raking leaves in her front yard when a neighbor shouted to her, “Your house is on fire!” Unperturbed, Anna May Power, then 77, entered her home, gathered up a box of valuables and insurance papers, then crossed the street and watched from the front porch of a neighboring home while firefighters went to work saving her 1906 wood-framed structure. “I wasn't worried,” Power told them later. “You were all over the place like ants.” Damage of $6,000 was reported.
