La Cañada Crime: Cash, PlayStation 3 and a Coach purse stolen from a Burning Tree Drive home

Feb. 19-26

Vandalism and petty theft: 5000 block of Louise Drive, between 9 a.m. Feb. 19 and 10 a.m. Feb. 26. Charter Communications reported that a cable equipment box had been broken into and batteries valued at $540 taken. Damage to the box totaled $130.

Feb. 25

Burglary: 5400 block of Burning Tree Drive, between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Cash totaling $4,000, a PlayStation 3 valued at $300, and a Coach leather purse valued at $300 were reported stolen. The victim reported that the front door had been pried open and the house ransacked. The reporting officer also found pry marks on a side door, but a washing machine blocked entrance there.

Feb. 28

Trespassing: 1000 block of Salisbury Court, 7:39 p.m. A resident reported that after he entered the front door of his home following a walk, he turned around in the foyer to see a white male, about 21, inside the door, holding a tile in his hand. The suspect did not say anything, but held the tile in such a way that the resident was frightened. He called out to his daughter, who was in the house at the time. The suspect, who was wearing a baseball cap and dark sunglasses, turned around and exited through the front door, running toward the street and out of view.

March 4

Attempted burglary: 4900 block of Del Monte Road, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. The homeowner reported the house had been left locked in the morning. He received a phone call from his alarm company at about 8 p.m. notifying him that an alarm at the dining room door had been activated. No items were reported stolen, but pry marks were found on several exterior doors and a window. Damages were estimated at $940.

La Crescenta

Feb. 27

Burglary: 5000 block of Rosemont Ave., La Crescenta, 11:30 a.m. A house was entered through a rear patio door on the first floor while there was an occupant upstairs. Hearing voices coming from downstairs, the occupant, a disabled woman, called a relative for assistance. When he arrived, he heard a door shut, but did not see intruders. He found a glove that had been dropped just inside the front door and a plastic bag outside the door, but no items were reported stolen. Damage to the rear patio door was set at $100.

Feb. 28-March 1

Vehicle burglary: 2500 block of Community Ave., La Crescenta. Between 5 p.m. on Feb. 28 and 8 a.m. March 1, the front window on the driver’s side of a 4-door Honda Accord was smashed, causing $500 in damage. It appeared the car had been rummaged through, but no items were reported missing. The car had been parked on the street overnight.
