Bellflower man dies after collision on Angeles Crest Highway

A 49-year-old Bellflower man died May 1 from injuries sustained in a multiple-collision car accident on the Angeles Crest Highway, the Altadena CHP reported.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. when the driver, identified as Carlos Eren Durkin, was traveling westbound in a 1993 Mazda sedan near Mile Post 28.6, about four miles north of Foothill Boulevard. For an unknown reason, Durkin pulled to the right side of the road and collided with the rocky hillside, damaging the windshield, right front bumper, fender and wheel.

The Mazda continued out of control, crossing both westbound and eastbound lanes of traffic before colliding with the rocky hillside on the east side of Angeles Crest. It was there that the vehicle came to a rest.

A passerby who came upon the stopped vehicle reported the incident to authorities. Durkin transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries from blunt force trauma. and was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m.

Altadena CHP was reportedly still investigating the collision.
