Brunch to tout preserving Cottonwood Canyon

Share

The Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy is hosting an open house brunch in the Cottonwood Canyon Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to educate the community and potential donors about its efforts to purchase the 11-acre property as a preservation and restoration project.

The nonprofit conservancy is hoping to raise a total of $1.6 million in federal grants and donations to help maintain a wildlife corridor between the San Rafael and Verdugo mountains. The area, located south of Devil’s Gate Dam near Pasadena’s border with La Cañada, is home to hundreds of animal and insect species, including birds, deer, coyotes and bobcats, and contains a year-round spring.

Participants at Sunday’s brunch can enjoy fruit and hand-held acorn pancakes as they learn more about the historical and ecological importance of Cottonwood Canyon, and the conservancy’s effort to save it from being developed.

Parking is between 1950 and 2010 Linda Vista Avenue, Pasadena. Balloons will mark the entrance. For more information, email jennifertaylor@arroyosfoothills.org or call (626) 796-0782.
