La Cañada Flintridge

Sept. 23

Burglary, business: 800 block of Foothill Boulevard. A manager for the AT&T store told police that two days earlier, an unidentified male entered the front door and walked up to an LG G3 cellphone on display. He then looked around to see if anyone was watching him before removing the phone from its security cord. He crossed his arms to hide the phone and placed it in his pants pocket as he uncrossed his arms before exiting the store. The crime was captured on surveillance video.

Burglary, business: 2100 block of Foothill Boulevard. Police responded to an alarm call at Marsh Village Pharmacy at around 1:28 a.m. About an hour later, the owner arrived on scene. She noticed there had been a forced entry through the back door and that various medications were missing from the shelves. Security footage showed two suspects prying open the back door, entering and then later leaving with a trash can full of medications. The suspect placed the can into a newer model silver four-door sedan and both suspects left, heading west out the back alley and out of view at 1:31 a.m. Due to the grainy nature of the footage, neither a license plate number nor descriptions of the two suspects could be ascertained. A deputy also observed a 5-inch hole in a broken window at the back of the location. Fingerprints were ordered and photos were booked into evidence.

Petty theft, unlocked vehicle: 100 block of Foothill Boulevard. A woman parked her 2012 Volkswagen Routan in order to drop her child off at school. While she was at the school, teachers told her they saw a man inside her unoccupied car. When she returned to the car, she noticed her new iPhone 6 was missing from the center console. The suspect did not remain in the area. The witnesses said they were driving to work when they saw a man inside the car and confronted him verbally. The suspect said the car belonged to a neighbor. They told him they did not believe him and told him to exit the vehicle. After exiting, the suspect ran and got into a white, four-door sedan and fled the scene. Fingerprints were ordered.

Burglary, residence: 300 block of Gertrude Avenue. A man and his wife left their home at 8 a.m., leaving all doors and windows secured except for a second-story bedroom window on the home’s northeast side. When they returned home at 4 p.m., the man noticed rugs from that bedroom had been rolled up and tossed on the floor by the closet. Dresser drawers were open and jewelry had been dumped out of several boxes. Underneath the rolled rugs were roofing tar stains on the carpet and bedspread. The victim told police he’d hired a construction company to replace the roof, that they were to have arrived after he left for work in the morning and have left before his return. Nothing appeared to have been missing. The owner of the construction company gave police information on the workers, who were contacted. The worker later said he and his son arrived at around 8 a.m. and worked until 1 p.m., the son leaving briefly at 11:30 a.m. to get food and use the restroom. In a separate interview, the son confessed the food had made him ill and he needed to use the restroom. He noticed the upstairs window was ajar, so he climbed in to use the facilities. He later admitted to the crime in a written statement and was arrested and booked at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. DNA and fingerprint tests were ordered, and a photo of the scene was booked into evidence.

Petty theft, unlocked vehicle: 3100 block of Santa Carlotta Street. A man reported that sometime between 3 p.m. on Tuesday and 8 a.m. the following day, someone entered his unlocked 2003 Nissan Altima and stole numerous items from its glove compartment, including a Coach wallet containing a gift card and credit card as well as the victim’s college identification card. By the time he contacted authorities, the man had already canceled his credit card.

Vandalism: Glenwood Avenue at Community Avenue. A Crescenta Valley High School student told a school resource officer that on Sept. 9, sometime between 1 and 3 p.m., someone kicked the driver’s side door of her 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, causing a circular shaped dent. The victim noticed the shoe print on the door had a diamond-shaped pattern, as might be made by a “Van’s” style shoe. No witnesses could be located.

Montrose

Sept. 25

Theft, vehicle (taken without consent): 210 Foothill Freeway at Ocean View Boulevard. While driving northbound on Ocean View Boulevard, a deputy saw a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria traveling in the same direction. When the officer ran the license plates, a report said the vehicle had been reported as stolen, so he followed it onto the freeway, initiating a stop at Honolulu and Lowell avenues. The driver was ordered out of the car and secured in the back seat of a patrol car. The suspect said he’d traded an acquaintance a 2000 Toyota Solara for the vehicle a week earlier and had planned to register it in his name. He could not provide details on the Toyota, as he’d similarly traded another car for that earlier. The Crown Victoria was towed to the sheriff’s station and the owner called, but there was no answer.
