Discounts offered at Vons in La Cañada before store closes

Vons in La Cañada Flintridge is offering a steep discount on its products before closing its doors on Saturday, according to a representative for the company.

The store will offer a 50% discount on all purchases through Saturday, excluding milk and tobacco products, said Carlos Illingworth, spokesman for Safeway/Vons.

The store will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, unless products sell out before then, he said.

Gelson’s recently announced that it plans to take over the space in December, with plans to open early next year.

Employees at the current Vons location will be transferred to other locations, said Illingworth. The store was not performing well, he said.

“We have performance standards for all of our stores and this location, unfortunately, did not meet those expectations,” Illingworth said in an emailed statement.
