Donations cover cost of stolen LCF Rose float items

The La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Assn. has received donations from the community following a theft at the site where the float is being built.

On the night of Oct. 12, welding equipment, copper wiring and power cables worth around $7,500 were stolen from the association’s storage unit on Hampton Road. “Dog Gone!,” the association’s float that features a dog catcher running after a truck full of dogs, was not damaged.

Wells Fargo on Wednesday announced it has donated $5,000 to the association to cover costs to replace the stolen materials.

“When our team learned of the equipment robbery we were heartbroken and knew we had to help,” Suzanne Hart, a Wells Fargo team member from La Cañada, said in a statement.

Betty Jones, treasurer for the association, said that in addition to the Wells Fargo gift, the organization has received at least $2,000 in donations. The combined efforts will allow the all-volunteer group to replace the stolen items, Jones said.

Donations are still welcomed and can be made by visiting www.lcftra.org. Tickets can also be purchased there for the organization’s major fundraiser, “An Evening of Wine and Roses,” which takes place Sunday, Nov. 3 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club.
