City officials this week asks La Cañada Flintridge residents to register their contact information online at www.lcf.ca.gov/alert so they can receive emergency notifications via the updated version of “Alert LCF,” which was recently deployed.
The new program is capable of sending voice, email, text and TTY/TTD messages and will be used when there is a health or safety threat to community members, according to Peter Castro, senior management analyst/public safety coordinator for the city.
Although many La Cañadans earlier registered their land-line phone numbers to be contacted in emergencies, they are now asked to add their cellphone, work numbers, email and other means of communication to the database. According to Castro, residents can also provide information related to any special needs they might have, or any specially trained skills that could be of use in an emergency situation. They can also opt in to receive alerts about city meetings or special events.
“We strongly encourage our citizens to register their additional numbers and devices on our new system so that they will increase the likelihood of receiving an urgent notification in the event of an emergency,” Castro stated in a news release. “In addition, adding any volunteer information would be helpful to the City’s disaster planning and response efforts.”
La Cañada Flintridge residents who do not have access to the Internet and need assistance registering may either visit City Hall at 1327 Foothill Blvd. or call (818) 790-8880. Hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
