Former La Cañada mayors get their bronze due

Share

Bronze plaques commemorating two former mayors of this city were unveiled Monday at Mayors’ Discovery Park on Foothill Boulevard.

Stephen A. Del Guercio, who served three terms as mayor, and Gregory C. Brown, the mayor in 2006-07, were on hand for the unveiling ceremony with current Mayor Laura Olhasso.

“The plaques were established to honor the past mayors of La Cañada Flintridge,” stated longtime resident Margaret Pankratz, whose idea it was to create a mayors recognition wall at the park. “It is with pride that we have added Mayor Del Guercio’s and Mayor Brown’s plaques to the Mayors’ honor wall.”

Both men have been civically involved for several years. Del Guercio became a planning commissioner in 1999 and was elected to the City Council in 2001. Brown, also a former planning commissioner, won a City Council seat in 2003. Del Guercio and Brown are also known within school circles, having served on the board of the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation.

The wall honoring former mayors can be found along the east side of the park, which is located near the entrance to the Glendale (2) Freeway at Foothill Boulevard.
