La Canada basketball edges Monrovia in overtime

La Canada 64, Monrovia 61 (OT): Koko Kurdoghlian capped off an impressive performance in the Spartans’ Rio Hondo League opener at Monrovia Wednesday night. The freshman finished with 20 points, as he sank two free throws late in overtime to put an end to the scoring after an off-target buzzer beater from the Wildcats.
Senior point guard Ryan Lee also drew praise from La Cañada Coach Tom Hofman for his ability to control the game. The Spartans improved to 9-7, 1-0 in league.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
La Cañada 53, Monrovia 12: Rio Hondo League play opened in impressive fashion Wednesday for the Spartans (9-7, 1-0 in league), who got a team-high 14 points from Courtney Chen on the road.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 3, Louisville 1: Casey Basso had a goal and an assist in Wednesday’s Mission League win at Crespi High.
The Tologs (10-0-2, 2-0 in league) also got a goal from Sarah Vail and an own goal, with Krista Meaglia and Hannah Armendariz tallying assists.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Mayfield 19, Flintridge Prep 3: The Rebels got goals from Arin Phillips, Erin Dennis and Chelsea Rappaport in a Prep League loss played at Maranatha High Wednesday. Flintridge Prep fell to 1-11.
