La Cañada Crime: Window shattered at liquor store

June 18

Burglary, business: 800 block of Foothill Boulevard. A deputy was called to Remedy Liquor regarding a shattered window. Inside the location were several glass cabinets that appeared to have some contents missing. The front door was determined to be the point of entry. The owner was contacted and said the store was secured the night before around 10:30 p.m. He indicated at least four bottles of liquor — champagne, tequila, scotch and cognac — were missing. The woman who noticed the broken window and called the sheriff’s department said she did not see anyone in the area. Fingerprints and photographs of the scene were collected.

June 21

Burglary, residence: 4700 block of Palm Drive. A man reported that sometime between 7 p.m. Friday and 8:45 a.m. the next morning, someone entered his home through the rear sliding glass door and stole a metal glass-topped table from the living room and a cardboard checkers set from the family room. Two small pry marks on the sliding glass door and its frame indicated the point of entry. Additional pry marks were found on a door leading from the backyard into the garage, but nothing was reported missing from there. The stolen items belonged not to the homeowner, but to a home staging company being used to help sell the house. The victim did not have the company’s information on hand at the time of the report, and no witnesses could be found.

Burglary, vehicle: Switzer’s Picnic Area in Angeles National Forest. A man called deputies after returning from a hike with his girlfriend and finding the front passenger window of his 2000 Buick had been smashed and the window frame bent in. The woman’s handbag has been taken from the passenger floorboard.

Petty theft, unlocked vehicle: 5400 block of Pineridge Drive. A man reported his 2003 Toyota pickup truck was broken into sometime between 3 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. that day while it was parked in his driveway. He’d inadvertently left it unlocked and returned to find missing some cash and the keys to the vehicle’s gas cap and trunk, as well as its ashtray. There were no visible signs of forced entry, and no witnesses could be found. The deputy noted that two other similar crimes occurred in the same area during the same time period.

Petty theft, unlocked vehicle: 2700 block of Brierhaven Drive. A woman called deputies to report that sometime between 9:30 p.m. the night before and 8 a.m. someone had broken into her unlocked 2011 Volkswagen Jetta as it was parked in her driveway and taken several items from her glove compartment. The victim reported a pair of sunglasses and garage door opener were missing and that several other items had been scattered around the car’s interior. Fingerprints were ordered, but interviews with neighbors returned no new information.

Petty theft, unlocked vehicle: 2700 block of Brierhaven Drive. A man reported that sometime between 4:15 and 5:15 a.m. someone entered his unlocked 2003 Dodge pickup truck while it was parked in his driveway and stole two pairs of glasses and a CD case from the center console and back seat. There were no signs of forced entry.
