La Cañada woman starts White House job

Colleen Chien, a native of La Cañada Flintridge, recently started a position at the White House.

Chien grew up in the city, attending Paradise Canyon Elementary School and graduating from Polytechnic School in Pasadena in 1991. She also worked for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on a break from Stanford University, where she studied engineering, science, technology and society. She also attended the Berkeley School of Law.

Chien started her position in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy on Sept. 16. She will advise Chief Technology Officer Todd Park on intellectual property, privacy and similar issues. She is taking a year off from her teaching position at Santa Clara University School of Law.

Chien is the daughter of Patsy Feng Chien and Ronald Jen-Min Chien.
