A new sermon series will get underway this Sunday, Oct. 5 at La Cañada United Methodist Church, located at 104 Berkshire Place.

Based on “Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity,” by Adam Hamilton, Pastor Elaine Cho’s first sermon addresses “When the Dreams Become Nightmares” (1 Timothy 6:10) at the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

Oct. 5 is also World Communion Sunday, one of six special offering dates in the United Methodist Church. The special offering this week supports World Communion Scholarships, the Ethnic Scholarship Program and the Ethnic In-Service Training Program.

Child care and early elementary Sunday school is offered during the service. Tweens and Youth will forego their weekly class when they join the rest of the congregation for the all-church luncheon at noon.

Adult Bible study meets at 9 a.m. Sundays. Dr. Joel Green, dean of the Fuller School of Theology, continues this week with Chapter 11 of his book “Beginning with Jesus.” Another opportunity for Bible study is led every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. The current session with Pastor Cho studies the book “One Month to Live.”

At 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday the church holds a Taize service, an hour of meditation and rejuvenation.
