Rescuers find missing Orange County woman in Angeles National Forest
A Placentia woman who had been missing for 10 days was found alive and in good physical condition by Montrose Search and Rescue workers on Friday in the Angeles National Forest above La Cañada Flintridge.
Rescue workers found Shameca Lewis Johnson, 24, in the Switzer Falls area at about 10:45 a.m., according to a statement by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The search in the forest started Thursday evening after a hiker reported seeing a woman matching Johnson’s description, was postponed after nightfall and resumed Friday morning.
Sgt. Brad Butts of the Placentia Police Department said Johnson had not been taken to the forest, but went there voluntarily.
“We were able to rule out foul play,” Butts said. “She probably went there to just organize her thoughts. I don’t know her rationale.”
Butts said that after the search started, a cab driver reported to Fullerton police that he had driven Johnson to the Angeles National Forest.
Johnson has been reunited with family members, according to the Sheriff’s statement.
