Both Spartans entrants earned advancement to the CIF Southern Section Division III preliminaries at Estancia High next Saturday.

GIRLS’ TRACK

La Cañada at Rio Hondo League finals: The Spartans were unable to extend their season beyond Friday evening’s action at South Pasadena High.

Spartans distance runner Colleen Mispagel turned in her side’s top effort when she finished third in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:41.77. The event was won by San Marino’s Sarah Linton (5:38.96).

Unfortunately for Mispagel and La Cañada, her time of 5:41.77 missed the third-place at-large qualifying mark of 5:38.14.

Flintridge Prep (13-6-1, 8-2 in league) locked up second place with two games to go and will play at first-place Pasadena Poly on Tuesday, needing to win out and for Poly to lose out to share a piece of the league title for a second year in a row.
