Area sorority group awarded for service

Glendale Area Alumnae Panhellenic, a cooperative association of sorority alumnae belonging to the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), announced this week it has been recognized as a top alumnae group for its service to the community and support of the lifelong sorority experience. Glendale Area Alumnae Panhellenic is one of 59 Alumnae Panhellenics to receive national recognition.

The local cooperative organization represents 14 sororities that are members of the National Panhellenic Conference. The group’s purpose is to inform fraternity women of current trends, promote the fraternity system, improve the Panhellenic image and stimulate a continuing interest in Panhellenic affairs.

Volunteers in the local group include President Janice Paul, La Cañada Flintridge, Delta Delta Delta; Vice President Georgine Archer, Burbank, Delta Gamma; Secretary Kim Westhoff, Glendale, Alpha Omicron Pi; Treasurer, Elaine Chapman, La Cañada Flintridge, Kappa Kappa Gamma; Jacqueline Dwight, Burbank, Alpha Xi Delta; Social Chair Jerri Johnson, Pasadena, Sigma Sigma Sigma; Scholarship Chair Julie Weller, Glendale, Delta Zeta; Scholarship Committee members including Cathy Daniel, South Pasadena, Pi Beta Phi; Lynne Graves, La Cañada Flintridge, Alpha Delta Pi; Gaby Fernandez, North Hollywood, Alpha Epsilon Phi and Harriett Rector, Glendale, Phi Mu; Files Chair Rondi Werner Redmann, Glendale, Zeta Tau Alpha and website administrator Janis Rosebrook, Glendale, Alpha Xi Delta.

There are 193 active Alumnae Panhellenics. In the past year, community-based alumnae groups have collectively donated 65,552 hours of community service, raised $593,330 for undergraduate scholarships, awarded 457 scholarships and contributed $136,585 to community causes.

“We’re recognizing Alumnae Panhellenics for continuing excellence and service that they are providing in their communities and to sorority women in college,” stated Julie Johnson, Panhellenics Committee chairman for NPC.
