BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

La Cañada at Chaffey High Quad Meet: The Spartans were dominant in their season opener at Chaffey High on Wednesday afternoon, rolling to a victory while also placing their top five within the first nine positions.

La Cañada won the team meet with 22 points, topping host Chaffey (33), while also defeating Ganesha (85) and AB Miller (107).

“It was just a great start to the season,” Spartans second-year Coach Nick LaCapria said. “We ran the frosh and JV all together in one race with the varsity. So, to have five of the first nine spots is really impressive.”

Spartans senior Ethan Angold took home the individual victory in 16 minutes, 13 seconds, which was more than a minute ahead of his next closest competitor.

“He was in mid-season form,” LaCapria said. “He looked great and he’s getting ready for league.”

La Cañada’s Ethan Crane finished second overall in 17:16 and was followed by teammates Seve Rodriguez (fourth, 17:51), Josh Frederich (sixth, 18:17) and Cristos Menemenous (ninth, 18:47).
