Sports Roundup: La Cañada High softball slams South Pasadena

SOFTBALL
La Cañada 9, South Pasadena 2: The host Spartans picked up a Rio Hondo League win Wednesday behind a grandslam from Olivia Lam.

With the victory, Spartans improved to 15-7 overall and 8-2 in league and remain second in league.

Pasadena Poly 9, Flintridge Prep 1: Taylor Yoshida and Dominique Wright had one hit each for the Rebels on Wednesday in a Prep League game.

Flintridge Prep dropped to 5-13, 2-8 in league. In a league road game Friday, the Rebels suffered an 11-0 defeat to Westridge in five innings. Yoshida collected two of the four hits.

BASEBALL

La Cañada 7, South Pasadena 0: The host Spartans recorded a Rio Hondo League victory Wednesday. Spartans starting pitcher Travis Clark went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three hits. Justin Lewis drove in three runs for the Spartans, who improved to 11-12, 4-6 in league.

Flintridge Prep 7, Chadwick 6 (eight innings): At the Glendale Sports Complex on Tuesday, the Rebels won their fourth consecutive game and sixth out of the last seven, as the Rebels ran wild to the tune of 11 stolen bases in the game, with Scott Tsangeos swiping four and Hamilton Evans three. Tsangeos added two hits, two runs and a run batted in, while Evans had a pair of runs and an RBI.

Flintridge Prep (12-6-1, 7-2) scored four runs in the fifth for a 6-3 lead before Chadwick tied it in the sixth.

Cole Rademacher had three hits and a run, Michael Weinstein had two hits, two RBI and a run and Robbie Leslie also had a pair of runs batted in.

Daniel Enzminger threw two scoreless innings of relief for the win, striking out five.

Crespi 8, St. Francis 3: The Golden Knights fell Tuesday in Mission League play, dropping to 7-15, 1-8. St. Francis held a 3-2 lead until Crespi scored four runs in the fifth.

BOYS’ GOLF
St. Francis in Mission League prelims: The Golden Knights carded a 402 on Tuesday at Lakewood Golf Course. St. Francis finished second in league behind Loyola.

The Golden Knights had five players advance to the league’s individual final, which will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard. Michael Mozilo had a six-over-par 78 for the Golden Knights, who received 80s’s from Nathan Han and Stian Lintvedt, an 81 from Michael Finney and 83 from Johnny Brandt.

The top eight finishers from the field of 25 on Thursday will advance to the CIF Southern Section Individual Tournament.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

South Pasadena 3, La Cañada 1: The Spartans fell in their regular season finale in Rio Hondo League play on Monday.

Sophomore outside hitter Mel Schroeder led the La Cañada (14-11, 4-4) with 14 kills, while junior Noah Goldstein added eight kills. Connor Belcher racked up 13 kills while Connor Walbrecht added 19 assists, 10 digs and two aces.

The Spartans finished third in the Rio Hondo League.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD
St. Francis in Mission League Prelims: Junior Ross Niederhaus led the way for the Golden Knights at the Mission League prelims at Occidental College on Monday.

Niederhaus finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.14.

Sophomore Jasher Foster took first in the 300-meter hurdles with a mark of 40.34 and third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.96), while freshman Izaiah Adams took second in the long jump in 18 feet 8 1/2 inches.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy Prelims: Junior Kayla Montgomery paced the Tologs at the Mission League prelims at Occidental College on Monday.

Montgomery was No. 1 in the in the 400-meter dash in 58.10, just ahead of teammate Nia Harris (59.60).

Freshman Sophia Saldivar finished second in 5:35.30, while junior Kayla Grahn took fourth in 5:38.94 in the 1,600-meter run.
