SPORTS ROUNDUP: St. Francis volleyball takes down La Cañada

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

St. Francis 3, La Cañada 1: Charles McCarthy finished with 19 kills and Chris Thompson added 13 kills and 15 assists Tuesday to spark the host Golden Knights (3-2) to a 20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 nonleague win. David Thompson contributed 25 assists for St. Francis, which got nine kills from Markar Agakanian.

Campbell Hall 3, Flintridge Prep 1: Mike Lii had 26 assists Tuesday for the host Rebels, who saw Campbell Hall record a 22-25, 25-21, 25-8, 25-19 nonleague victory. Flintridge Prep (0-3) got 17 digs from Kurt Kozacik and 11 kills from Dante Fregoso.

BOYS’ GOLF

Harvard-Westlake 202, St. Francis 205: Vince De Pinto finished with five birdies to record a three-under-par 33 on Tuesday for St. Francis in a Mission League home match at Brookside Golf Course No. 1. Michael Mozilo and Michael Finney finished with 40s for the Golden Knights, who got a 42 from Johnny Brandt.

La Cañada 183, Crescenta Valley 228: The Spartans prevailed Tuesday against the visiting Falcons (1-3) in a nonleague match at La Cañada Country Club.

The Spartans (3-0) were led by Collin Morikawa’s 33, while Robby Stehlin added a 34, Joshua Suh shot a 37 and Adam Horne had a 38.

La Cañada started the week with a first and ninth-place finish in the Glendora High Invitational Monday, as the Spartans split up into two teams at the Glendora Country Club. Stehlin led La Cañada’s first-place B team, which had a 223, and won the tournament championship with a two-under-par 70. Morikawa and Suh carded a 75 and 78, respectively, for the first-place group.

The Spartans A team of Noah Bernstein, Daniel Rhee and Sam Bernstein also placed ninth out of 23 teams.

SOFTBALL

Ramona Convent 14, Flintridge Prep 7: Drew Montgomery finished with two hits and Ashley Kim drove in a pair of runs for host Flintridge Prep (1-1) in a nonleague contest Tuesday.

La Cañada in San Dimas Tournament: The Spartans shut out Temple City, 7-0, in a pre Rio Hondo League game Tuesday. Maddy MacKenzie logged the five-inning, one-hit shutout in the circle for La Cañada, which received two-for-two games from Katy Lee and Olivia Leyva.

La Cañada opened tournament play Monday with an 11-7 win over South El Monte on the road.

Leyva led the offensive explosion for the Spartans, falling a single short of the cycle with a three-for-four performance that included a home run, triple, double, three runs batted in and three runs scored. La Cañada also received two hits from Aubri Thompson (two for two, stolen base), Annie Monroe (RBI) and Kelsey Drange (two doubles, stolen base).

Lee, Selina Mohr and Brenna Gay, who tripled, also finished with a hit and RBI in the game. MacKenzie notched the complete, five-inning victory with three strikeouts in the game.
