Burglar hits home on Hobbs Avenue in La Cañada

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies on the ground and in the air were unable to locate a burglary suspect in La Cañada Flintridge at mid-day on Friday.

A resident of the 4400 block of Hobbs Avenue, just south of Foothill Boulevard, called the sheriff’s department after hearing suspicious noises at a neighboring home around 11:30 a.m. The resident went outside and saw a man wearing a baseball cap running away from the home, according to Sgt. Mark Slater.

Slater said that deputies reached the site of the burglary within seconds and saw the rear sliding glass door was shattered, but were unable to locate the suspect.

“Unfortunately, he probably had a car waiting,” said Slater.

A helicopter was called in to aid in the search and circled the area around Foothill Boulevard and Oakwood Avenue, but as of 12:20 p.m. had not been able to find the burglar.

Slater said that until the homeowner could be contacted, it wasn’t clear what, if anything, had been stolen from the home.

Michael Peters, a Hobbs Avenue resident, said he was working from home when he heard a crashing noise from next door, but didn’t see anything when he looked outside.

Peters said he had been living on Hobbs Avenue for around 18 years, and that burglaries seemed to be happening more often in the neighborhood recently.

“There have been a bunch of them around here,” he said.
