Things heat up at Wine & Gourmet Food Tasting

Memorial Park transformed into a wonderland for those with gourmand appetites and an appreciation for fine vintages on Sunday, as the La Cañada Kiwanis Club presented its 14th annual La Cañada Flintridge Wine & Gourmet Food Tasting.

Working alongside Kiwanians to make sure the day went off without a hitch were members of the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Assn. and Le Petit Vendome Wine & Spirits, partners in the event that benefited the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada and the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation Endowment.

Some 400 to 500 participants made their ways from tent to tent, seeking not only respite from daytime temps that climbed to 98 degrees, but a seemingly endless supply of sweet and savory tidbits and pours from some of California’s finest boutique wineries.

Local wine and food purveyors, in addition to catering companies, brought their best to share with the day’s sun-weary but still-smiling denizens, many of whom entered into an opportunity drawing for a chance to win one of 25 prize packages containing wines selected by Vendome’s Lyn Tran or donated by wineries and Kiwanis Club members themselves.

Although ticket sales were still being calculated at press time, the raffle drawing helped raise approximately $2,000, organizers reported after the event.
