As 2015 draws to a close, volunteers put the finishing touches on Rose Parade float

Hundreds of local volunteers and Rose Parade devotees are dedicating the last remaining hours 2015 has to offer to something they’re sure to remember for the rest of their days.

Wednesday afternoon found temporary residents of “the float city under the bridge,” full of cheer as they put the finishing touches to “Up a Creek,” the design selected by the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament Assn. for this year’s parade theme, “Find Your Adventure.”

It will be the 68th entry to glide down Pasadena streets New Year’s morning in the 2016 Rose Parade at 8 a.m., but won’t be La Cañada’s only contribution to the festivities.

This year, three La Cañada students will ride in the official Royal Court float, 23rd in the lineup, including Rose Princesses Sarah Shaklan of La Cañada High school and Bryce Bakewell of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and, of course, Rose Queen Erika Winter of Flintridge Preparatory School.

On Tuesday, the Royal Court arrived bright and early to the Pasadena Convention Center & Visitors Bureau to take calls at the 32nd annual visitor hotline event.

There, they tested their tournament mettle as they fielded questions about the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl game. It was one of several appearances they have made to date, but surely cannot overshadow tomorrow’s main event.
