Sport Chalet Demonstration Day hits the target

Olberz Park was the site of activity ranging from sleeping bag tests to yoga classes Saturday as Sport Chalet hosted its third annual Mountain and Outdoor Expo, just steps from the company’s La Cañada Flintridge headquarters.

About 400 people turned out to climb rock walls, practice pitching tents, play games, introduce themselves to Smokey Bear and sample the range of outdoor gear sold by the retailer with 52 stores and plans to open a downtown Los Angeles store next year.

Spokeswoman Tonya Bray say the crowds and number of participating vendors have doubled in the three years Sport Chalet has hosted the event.
