Grillin’ and chillin’ at the YMCA

More than 350 people turned out Sunday for a free barbecue and a chance to explore the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA.

The occasion was the Y’s community open house, the first in what it hopes to make an annual tradition.

Children made chalk art, played dodge ball and took part in other activities as the band Misplaced Priorities played music for dancers of all ages.

The Y made the gym and pool available, showed a movie and simply tried to bring people together, said Crescenta-Canada Y Membership Director Jackie Shaumyan.

“We wanted a place for the community to get together and wanted to use our facility to bring families together,” Shaumyan said.
