Thursday storm hammered La Cañada

While parts of Southern California remained dry on Thursday, La Cañada Flintridge was pelted by hail and briefly swamped by powerful thunderstorms.

On Thursday afternoon, lightning sparked tree fires that were quickly doused and briefly caused a power outage on Foothill Boulevard. A torrent of rain and hail from about 2:30 to 3 p.m. flooded streets, sent streams of water and mud down local channels and left some homes looking ready for Christmas, with a white blanket of hail on rooftops and lawns.
