Ten Years Ago

Scott Tracy was elected president of the La Cañada Unified School District Governing Board during a meeting held at La Cañada High School. Outgoing president was Jinny Dalbeck. Tracy, who was also the board’s president this year, was reelected to that post this month for 2013.

Twenty Years Ago

The vast Christmas village and train display at Nancy and Bob Wagners’ La Cañada Flintridge home was featured on the cover of the Valley Sun on Dec. 17, 1992. Created from items collected over many years, the display filled the Wagners’ expansive living room.

Thirty Years Ago

The La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Assn.’s cookbook, “Parade of Recipes,” was available for purchase at area merchants as a fundraiser. Its editor, Shirley Herrman, assured local residents the $10 book was an ideal gift for friends during the 1982 holiday season.

Forty Years Ago

Behrens Memorial Hospital in Glendale closed its doors after 50 years and transferred by ambulance dozens of patients to its newly opened facility in the foothills, Verdugo Hills Hospital.

Fifty Years Ago

The first hole-in-one at the new La Cañada Country Club was scored by local resident Bonnie Murphy and was recorded in the club’s newsletter, “The Echo.”

Sixty Years Ago

It was announced in December 1952 that Leah Feland of La Cañada would reign as the 1953 Rose Queen for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Assn. The new royal was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Feland of Jarvis Avenue.
