High school Kiwanis make charity report

Share

Officers of the La Cañada High School Kiwanis Builders Club recently joined members of the Noon Club to report on recent charitable activities.

The students collected nearly 300 pounds of canned food items during its Thanksgiving Food Drive to help stock pantry shelves at the Los Angeles County Regional Food Bank.

During the Christmas season, the students collected Christmas cards for 9-year-old Dalton Dingus, who suffers from Stage 4 Cystic Fibrosis. Dingus wished to beat the Guinness World record for the most Christmas cards received, so the students helped him collect 42,000 cards, defeating the current record.

The Kiwanis Builders Club has grown to about 35 eighth graders at LCHS, with a waiting list of students eager to join.

Community members Bryan Schwartz and Rolando Morales serve as sponsors for the club, and LCHS teacher Sam Picture serves as faculty advisor.
