La Cañada Thursday Club members and guests gathered for a tea meeting April 4 at the clubhouse where keynote speaker Reg Green gave a presentation marking Donate Life Month. Green and his family were traveling in Italy 18 years ago when their son, Nicholas, was killed in an apparent robbery attempt gone awry.

When the senior Greens realized Nicholas was brain dead, they donated his organs so that others’ lives could be saved or improved. After their son’s death the news spread quickly throughout Italy of the Greens’ generosity and organ donations increased not only in Italy, but around the world.

Following the program, tea was served and Reg Green signed copies of his book, “The Nicholas Effect.”

The presentation was organized by the club’s Community Relations Committee, led by Barbara Self. Chairing the tea were Judy Cooper, Jane Roselle and Shon Whipple.
