Children playing in Memorial Park this summer will have a place to escape the heat.

La Cañada Flintridge completed a shade structure at the park’s playground late last month with the support of a local organization.

Mom’s Club of the Foothills donated $1,275 toward the project, which had a budget of $13,000, according to Carl Alameda, senior management analyst for the city. The playground has received other upgrades in the past year, including a new tube slide and an access gate.
