Kate Hansen, a 21-year-old who recently qualified to participate in the 2014 winter Olympics celebrated her achievement in La Cañada Flintridge on Monday night.

Hansen, a La Cañada High School graduate, was selected to be a member of the U.S. luge team. She gathered with friends, family, and supporters at Los Gringos Locos.

She held a fundraising event at the restaurant, which her uncle Bent Hansen owns, in September.

Joining the U.S. Olympic team is a bittersweet victory for Kate Hansen, who has been competing since she was a child and narrowly missed getting a spot on the team in 2010.

Last week, she told the Valley Sun that she was speechless when she heard the news.
